Scottish independence campaign has a bad day at the office.

The pro independence campaign suffered a blip yesterday with protesters screaming 'scum scum scum ' and 'stick the Union Jack up your arse' etc at UKIP leader Nigel Farage in Edinburgh.

Although the pro independence 'Yes Scotland ' campaign has tried to distance itself from the melee in Edinburgh yesterday saying it "had no knowledge or involvement in any of the scenes on the Royal Mile " it will still be tarred with the same brush.

It's almost as if the whole thing was a set up. Every news organisation was on hand to witness the scenes on the Royal Mile and it was timed perfectly for the 6 o'clock news.

The follow up interviews and comments in the media have concentrated on blaming everything on the SNP and the 'nationalist racists who hate the English'.

A few wavering independence supporters may now be persuaded to stick with the 'safety' of the Union.

A job well done by whoever is working things behind the scenes I'd say.

  1. Silly really because Mr Farage is French.

  2. hi tris...I can't find any evidence that Mr Farage is French. Think he was born in Kent. I know he's married to a German.

A massive own goal for us yesterday. So disappointing. I'd not heard of the 'Radical Independents' before now.

  3. I don't think it is an own goal. The only people who'll think this is some sort of Yes Scotland/SNP planned attack are those already with a predisposition toward that train of thought.

I would say we're as likely to have attracted more yes voters (wavering socialists) than repelled any (wavering right wingers.)

It looked distasteful but then sometimes political discourse is. I wouldn't expect Salmond (for example) to get any less visceral a reaction if he went to an English inner city pub to promote a political party that wished to do English voters a disservice.

The difference is, no one in the press would be offering sympathetic words to Salmond or bemoaning the infringement on his right to free speech.

    Seriously, what did Farage expect?

  4. hi pa...I think the main problem is that most folk believe everything that they read or see in the newspapers and on tv and don't know that it's all lies and propaganda. They will see the SNP and Yes Scotland being portrayed as hooligans and want nothing to do with them.
It won't matter that the SNP / Yes Scotland had nothing to do with the protests. The damage is done.
